Sleepwalking

Inspired by David F. Sandberg in an idea he did for one of his Hollywood horror films, Lights Out. This idea blew my mind to have practical it is. This moment showed me big budget movies don’t always need something expensive to get the point across, sometimes all it takes is something practical. In his horror film he wanted to get a glowing eye effect for one of the demons/spirits. He used reflective tape over the talent’s eyes to create this look. No digital work needed. This inspired me to use this reflective tape method in a different idea, how a constant sleepwalker would look like.

Once I bought some at a local tool shop I got home and started experimenting. I needed to put the eye shaped cut pieces over my eyelids. This meant I was blind to my movement. Everything had to be based off feeling and it felt good just letting go with an idea blind to what I was doing. Imagine always walking around at night, what if the effect of this is glowing eyes, an adaptive shift in biology to see in the night. Just like how animals and deep-sea life adapt to their environment. The cells and DNA must change to survive.
